What is Bioenergetic Analysis ?

BA grey light border clear smallBioenergetic Analysis is a specific form of body-psychotherapy – based upon the continuity between body and mind – rooted in the work of Wilhelm Reich and founded by Alexander Lowen.

Bioenergetic Analysis is a unique and effective relational somatic psychotherapy with a long and established history on the cutting edge of contemporary psychology as rapid advance in neurobiology highlights the intricate and intimate relationship between body and mind.

What modern Bioenergetics is able to offer, is the ability to understand and work safely with the whole body and all of its emotions. Bioenergetic therapists work with cognitions, feelings, sensations, the muscular and nervous systems integrating the latest finding in neuroscience. Bioenergetic therapists work with not only affect regulation but also arousal regulation. Bringing all these dimensions into the therapeutic relationship, also brings greater potential for change and healing.

The International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA) is an organization dedicated to the spread of modern Bioenergetic Analysis in the world and to the support and encouragement of its members in their activity as Bioenergetic therapists. Through that mission, modern Bioenergetic Analysis develops and grows. The support the IIBA provides to its members, and to the various groups within the IIBA in which members are organized -- local societies and regional federations -- enhances the work being done at the local and regional level to develop members’ capacities as Bioenergetic Therapists, and the expansion of the method of modern Bioenergetic Analysis with the aim of alleviating human suffering.

It is through our local affiliated societies that one can become certified as a contemporary Bioenergetic Therapist.
The IIBA has a comprehensive training curriculum that all societies affiliated with the IIBA must follow. All IIBA affiliated programs consist of a minimum of 80 days of training along with required supervision hours and individual therapy hours with a Certified Bioenergetic Therapist. The IIBA is sensitive to the cultural and legal differences of the many countries in which our programs exist. The IIBA has a code of ethics that all members must follow.
